2.1 Downloading Packages to a Package Manager

To update packages to your Framework hosts, you must first download them to a Package Manager, then update individual hosts or domains with the packages.

There are two options for downloading packages to a Package Manager:

You must configure the Package Manager to access the server you require.

2.1.1 Configuring the Package Manager

You must supply the Package Manager with a location for downloading the packages before you can add packages for distribution.

  1. Click Package Manager on the home page of the console.

  2. Click Settings in the task pane.

  3. (Conditional) To use a local server:

    1. Select Local Package Manager.

    2. Fill in the following fields:

      Host name: Specify the DNS name of the host.

      Port: Specify the communication port. The default is 29120.

      The local server is a Framework host that has been configured to store the packages.

  4. (Conditional) To use an update server:

    1. Select Novell Update Server.

    2. Specify the username and password for your Novell Customer Center account.

    3. To view the update server information, select Advanced Settings.

      • When Packages is selected, the following URL is configured:

        https://nu.novell.com:443/PUM/packages

        Use this URL to download update packages.

      • When Eval is selected, the following URL is configured:

        https://nu.novell.com:443/PUM/eval

        Use this URL to download evaluation packages.

  5. Click Finish.

  6. Continue with Section 2.1.2, Adding Packages to the Package Manager.

2.1.2 Adding Packages to the Package Manager

If you have configured the Package Manager to use an update server (see Section 2.1.1, Configuring the Package Manager), you use the following procedure to add packages to the Package Manager. If you downloaded the packages to a directory, you can use a command line option to add the packages. See Section 10.3, Package Distribution Options.

  1. Click Package Manager on the home page of the console.

  2. Click Add Packages in the task pane.

  3. Set the Package Filter options:

    Versions: Select 2.2.

    Platforms: Select the operating system, then use the arrow to display and select the platforms.

    Types: Select the types of packages you want to add (consoles, modules, interfaces, patches).

    Components: Select the components (command control, framework, miscellaneous)

  4. Select the packages from the list of available packages.

    To select multiple packages, press the Ctrl key and select the packages one at a time, or press the Shift key to select a consecutive list of packages. To select all packages, use Ctrl+A.

  5. Click Next to start downloading.

  6. Click Finish.

  7. To install these packages on your hosts, continue with Section 3.4.2, Updating Packages for a Host.

  8. To use this Package Manager as a local server for downloading packages, configure other Package Managers with the DNS name of this host.

2.1.3 Checking for Updated Packages

After you have configured the package manager for a group of packages, you can use the Check for Updates option to see if any updates are available.

  1. Click Package Manager on the home page of the console.

  2. Click Check for Updates in the task pane.

    The navigation pane displays updated packages available for download.

  3. Select the packages from the list of available packages.

    To select multiple packages, press the Ctrl key and select the packages one at a time, or press the Shift key to select a consecutive list of packages. To select all packages, use Ctrl+A.

  4. Click Next to start downloading.

  5. Click Finish.

  6. If updates were available, continue with Section 3.4.2, Updating Packages for a Host to install these packages on your hosts.

2.1.4 Removing Packages

  1. Click Package Manager on the home page of the console.

  2. In the list of available packages, select the packages you want to remove

    To select multiple packages, the Ctrl key and select the packages one at a time, or the Shift key to select a consecutive list of packages. To select all packages, use Ctrl+A.

  3. Click Remove Packages in the task pane.

  4. Click Next to start removing packages.

  5. Click Finish.
