PROVO, Utah - March 19, 2003 — With more than $2.3 billion in assets at the end of 2002 along with 200 headquarters employees and 700 agents across the country, Beneficial Life is one of the nation's strongest and most stable life insurance companies. To maintain its competitive edge, Beneficial Life is always looking to improve efficiency while lowering costs, which led the company to Novell ZENworks to manage its workstations, allowing IT administrators to support users without leaving their desks while increasing desktop imaging speed by 60 percent.
Beneficial Life evaluated various solutions to meet its needs for imaging, software deployment, remote control and inventory management. After evaluating products such as PowerQuest, Altiris and LANDesk, Beneficial Life chose Novell ZENworks for Desktops 4 as its desktop management solution.
"ZENworks for Desktops 4 combined everything we were looking for in one package," said Paul Scherbel, workstation administrator at Beneficial Life. "Instead of having to buy several different applications to meet our workstation management needs, ZENworks meets most of our needs on its own."
Beneficial Life is using ZENworks to dynamically distribute its 200 to 300 enterprise applications in a combined Novell eDirectory and Microsoft Active Directory environment, as well as handle its upgrade to Microsoft Windows XP. Using ZENworks for Desktops 4, Beneficial Life significantly reduced its helpdesk calls, freeing IT staff to work on other projects. The company also plans to incorporate ZENworks for Handhelds, giving it a vital desktop management solution that will support future growth, including a growing number of PDA users.
"We've tried almost every imaging package out there, and in terms of speed and efficiency, ZENworks is the best we've ever seen," Scherbel said.
