Section 5.1, Setup.exe File Does Not Display the Installation Page on a 64-Bit Server
Section 5.2, Extending the eDirectory 8.8.5 Schema When Using LDAP Mode on Linux
Section 5.3, Library Dependency on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11
Section 5.4, Case-Sensitive Passwords Do Not Work with eDirectory 8.8
Section 5.5, Encrypted Messenger Attributes in eDirectory 8.8
Section 5.6, New Messenger Client Is Not Compatible with the Older Messenger Server
On a 64-bit server, running the Setup.exe file at the root of the image does not display the main Novell Messenger Installation page.
To work around this issue:
Manually run either the server or client Setup.exe files, which are located in the server and client folders, respectively.
When installing Messenger with eDirectory 8.8.5 with LDAP mode on Linux, you must manually extend the eDirectory schema.
How you extend the schema depends on whether eDirectory is installed locally or remotely.
Choose direct mode, as described in Configuring Your Messenger System on Linux
in Installing a Novell Messenger System
in the Novell Messenger 2.1 Installation Guide.
Extend the schema using the Windows installer’s Configuring Your Messenger System on Linux
in Installing a Novell Messenger System
in the Novell Messenger 2.1 Installation Guide.
When running Messenger on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 11, you need to install the libstc++.so.5 or greater library.
If you try to connect to eDirectory 8.8 from Novell Messenger with a case-sensitive password, eDirectory 8.8 might not recognize the case-sensitive password. For information on how to enable case-sensitive passwords in eDirectory 8.8, see “How to Make Your Password Case-Sensitive” in the eDirectory 8.8 What’s New Guide.
If you are storing any encrypted Novell Messenger attributes in eDirectory 8.8, you cannot see these attributes in ConsoleOne until they are unencrypted.
The Novell Messenger 2 Support Pack 2 and later clients are unable to connect to any Novell Messenger system that is older than Novell Messenger 2 Support Pack 1.
Novell Conferencing provides support for the English, French, and German languages only. If you are using Novell Messenger to launch a Novell Conferencing meeting, as described in Using Novell Messenger with Novell Conferencing
in the Novell Messenger 2.1 Client User Guide, the language in which you are viewing Novell Messenger might not carry over to Novell Conferencing.
For example, if you are viewing Novell Messenger in Chinese and want to launch a Novell Conferencing meeting, your Conferencing meeting would be displayed in English.
