Some version 10.3.1 changes might have been included in the English version of the ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP3 guides after they were translated into other languages. We recommend that you check the English documentation for a complete list of the documentation updates. All untranslated documentation updates will be incorporated into the non-English versions of the online documentation with the next media release of ZENworks.
Review the following sections:
You must consider the following guidelines to plan for the deployment of version 10.3.1 in your Management Zone:
You can directly deploy version 10.3.1 to Primary Servers, Windows Satellites, Linux Satellites, and managed devices that have ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP3 (10.3) installed.
If your Management Zone consists of ZENworks Configuration Management 10.2.x Windows Satellites and managed devices, you can deploy version 10.3.1 to the devices only if ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP3 update has been downloaded and is available in the Management Zone. The ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP3 update is deployed first, and subsequently version 10.3.1 is deployed. Hence, the device reboots twice.
If you want to deploy version 10.3.1 to a Linux Satellite that has ZENworks Configuration Management 10.2.x installed, you must first upgrade it to ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP3 (10.3), and subsequently deploy version 10.3.1.
You must deploy version 10.3.1 first to the Primary Servers, subsequently to Satellites, and finally to managed devices.
If your Management Zone consists of ZENworks Configuration Management 10.3 Primary Servers and ZENworks Configuration Management 10.2.x/10.3 managed devices and Satellites, and if you choose to deploy version 10.3.1:
Ensure that the ZENworks Configuration Management version of a managed device is earlier than or the same as the ZENworks Configuration Management version of its Satellite and Primary Server.
Ensure that the ZENworks Configuration Management version of the Satellite is earlier than or the same as the ZENworks Configuration Management version of its Primary Server.
Refer to the following table to understand the ZENworks Configuration Management support matrix:
For instructions on downloading and deploying version 10.3.1 as an update, see “ZENworks System Updates” in the ZENworks 10 Configuration Management System Administration Reference.
For administrative tasks, see the Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management documentation Web site.
Version 10.3.1 includes the following new or enhanced features:
Version 10.3.1 has added support for the following:
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (SLES 11) SP1 as a Primary Server and Satellite.
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 (SLED 11) SP1 as a Satellite.
Version 10.3.1 has added support for the Mozilla Firefox 3.6.6 as an administration browser.
The Novell ZENworks Configuration Management Imaging Agent (novell-ziswin) in version 10.3.1 provides command line options to perform the following tasks:
Export the ISD to a file.
Import the ISD from a file.
Delete the ISD.
For detailed information about the command line options and their usage, see “Novell ZENworks Configuration Management Imaging Agent (novell-ziswin)” in the ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP3 Preboot Services and Imaging Reference.
Some of the issues identified in the initial version of ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP3 have been resolved with this release. For a list of the resolved issues, see TID 7006265 in the Novell Support Knowledgebase.
Some of the issues that were discovered in the original shipping version of ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP3 have not yet been resolved. For continuing issues, review the ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP3 Readme.
The Readme has been updated to indicate which issues are fixed by version 10.3.1.
When you use the ZENworks 10 Asset Management Migration Utility with an Oracle database, you might see Transparent Network Substrate (TNS) exceptions when connecting to the ZENworks zone. For example:
ORA-12154: TNS: could not resolve the connect identifier specified.
ORA-12504: TNS: listener was not given the SID in CONNECT_DATA.
ORA-12541: TNS: no listener.
There might be a problem with the TNS configuration of the machine that has the ZENworks 10 Asset Management Migration Utility installed.
Workaround: The TNS service name must be the same name that is used by the ZENworks Server.
If the ZENworks Asset Management 7.5 zone is connected to an Oracle database, migration of ZENworks Asset Management 7.5 objects to ZENworks 10 Configuration Management fails with an authentication error if the Oracle Client version is 10.2.0.x.
Workaround: Do one of the following before migrating the objects:
Upgrade the Oracle 10.2.0.x client to Oracle 11.2.0.
Downgrade the Oracle 10.2.0.x client to Oracle 10.1.0.2.
For more details, see TID 7006490 available in the Novell Support Knowledgebase.
If you have configured a bundle to display its shortcut in the managed device
menu and you assign this bundle to a Windows 7, Windows 2008, or Windows 2008 R2 device, the bundle shortcut icon is not correctly displayed in the menu.Workaround: Download the patch from Microsoft Support site.
For more details, see TID 7005032 available in the Novell Support Knowledgebase.
