1.0 Overview

The information in this Readme file pertains to the Update for Novell® ZENworks® 10 Configuration Management SP2 (10.2.2).

2.0 About Version 10.2.2

This version provides fixes to some of the issues discovered in ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP2, ZENworks 10 Asset Management SP2, and ZENworks 10 Patch Management SP2.

Some version 10.2.2 changes might have been included in the English version of the ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP2 guides after they were translated into other languages. We recommend that you check the English documentation for a complete list of the documentation updates. All untranslated documentation updates will be incorporated into the non-English versions of the online documentation with the next media release of ZENworks.

3.0 What’s New

3.1 Support for Windows 7

Windows 7 x 86, x86-64 (Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions) is now supported as a managed device and inventoried-only device.

3.2 New Bundle Right and Policy Right

The following rights have been newly added:

  • Assign Bundles: Allows or denies the administrator the rights necessary to assign the bundles listed in the contexts panel of the Bundle Rights dialog box to the user or device objects.

  • Assign Policies: Allows or denies the administrator the rights necessary to assign the policies listed in the contexts panel of the Policy Rights dialog box to the user or device objects.

If you upgrade from ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP2 (10.2.x) to ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP2 (10.2.2), the existing Administrator accounts get the following rights in addition to the rights they already have:

  • Assign Bundles and Assign Policies rights for the specified context

  • Assign Bundles right for the Bundles context

  • Assign Policies right for the Policies context

4.0 Issues Resolved by Version 10.2.2

Some of the issues identified in the initial version of ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP2 and Update for ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP2 (10.2.1) have been resolved with this release. For a list of the resolved issues, see TID 7004803 in the Novell Support Knowledgebase.

5.0 Product Issues

5.1 Continuing Issues in ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP2 (10.2/10.2.1)

Some of the issues that were discovered in the original shipping version of ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP2 or version 10.2.1 have not yet been resolved. For continuing issues, review the following documents:

The Readmes have been updated to indicate which issues were fixed by version 10.2.2.

5.2 Known Issues in Version 10.2.2

This section contains information about issues that might occur in version 10.2.2:

5.2.1 ZENworks System Update

5.2.1.1 An incorrect error message might be displayed by the ZENworks icon during the deployment of System Update

If ZENworks System Update is triggered when ZENworks Adaptive Agent is busy processing ZENworks related tasks, the ZENworks icon might pop up the following incorrect error message when the agent is trying to stop the ZENworks service.

The Novell ZENworks Agent service could not be stopped. Try manually stopping the service and restarting the ZENworks Update.

Workaround: Ignore the message. ZENworks System Update will automatically terminate the service within 10 to 15 minutes and subsequently will resume with the update.

5.2.1.2 Reinstalling Version 10.2.1 ZENworks Adaptive Agent features fails if the ZENworks Server has Version 10.2.2 installed

Before applying version 10.2.2 to the ZENworks Server and managed devices that have version 10.2.1 installed, if you uninstall one or more ZENworks Adaptive Agent features and subsequently apply version 10.2.2 only to the ZENworks Server, you cannot reinstall the uninstalled version 10.2.1 ZENworks Adaptive agent feature.

Workaround: Apply TID 7004739 available in the Novell Support Knowledgebase.

5.2.2 ZENworks Adaptive Agent

This section contains information about issues that might occur with ZENworks Adaptive Agent.

5.2.2.1 Bundles shortcut icons are not visible in the Start menu of a Windows 7 device

If you have configured a bundle to display its shortcut in the managed device Start menu and you assign this bundle to a Windows 7 device, the bundle shortcut icon is not displayed in the Start menu. This is because Microsoft* currently does not support the creation of custom folders on a Windows 7 device by using Namespace Extensions.

Workaround: To display the bundle shortcut icons in the Start menu of a Windows 7 device:

  1. Open the Registry Editor.

  2. Go to HKLM\Software\NetWare\NAL.

    If the registry key does not already exist, then you must create it.

  3. Create a DWORD called EnableStartMenuView and set its value to 1.

  4. Terminate and restart the explorer.exe process through the Windows Task Manager.

    or

    Log in to the managed device again.

The bundles shortcut icons are displayed in the Start menu. However, if the icons are not properly displayed, an automatic or manual refresh of the managed device is required.

5.2.3 Asset Inventory

This section contains information about issues that might occur with Asset Inventory.

5.2.3.1 Unable to inventory the BIOS details for Windows 7 64-bit devices that have SMBIOS 2.0 or earlier installed

Workaround: None.

If you want to inventory the BIOS details for Windows* 7 64-bit devices, you must have SMBIOS 2.1 or later installed on these devices.

5.2.4 Bundles

This section contains information about issues that might occur when you use Bundles in ZENworks Configuration Management.

5.2.4.1 The Launch Windows Executable action might fail on a Windows 7 or Windows Vista device

If you assign a bundle containing a Launch Windows Executable action to a Windows 7 or Windows Vista device that has User Account Control (UAC) enabled, the Launch Windows Executable action might fail on the device in the following scenarios:

  • The compatibility mode provided in the more options of the action is set for Windows 95, Windows 98 / Windows ME, Windows XP (Service Pack 2), or Windows XP (Service Pack 3).

  • The compatibility mode provided in the more options of the action is set and the executable to be launched requires elevated privileges. The icons of these executables have a UAC shield UAC shield icon overlay.

Action: Do the following to turn off UAC on the Windows 7 device:

  1. Click Start > Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > User Accounts > > Change User Account Control Settings.

  2. Slide the slider bar to the lowest value (towards Never Notify) with description displaying Never notify me.

  3. Click OK.

  4. In the User Account Control dialog box, click Yes.

  5. Restart the device.

Action: Do the following to turn off the UAC on the Windows Vista device:

  1. Click Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > > User Accounts > Turn User Account Control On or Off.

  2. Deselect Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer.

  3. Click OK.

  4. Restart the device.

5.2.5 Imaging

This section contains information about issues that might occur when you use Imaging in ZENworks Configuration Management.

5.2.5.1 Booting a Windows 7 device fails after the restoration of an image that is taken by using ImageX but without running SysPrep

If you take an image of a Windows 7 device by using ImageX but without running SysPrep, then subsequently restore the image, the booting of the device fails with the following error:

Boot Error - gives 0x0000000e error

Workaround 1: To troubleshoot the error, repair the Windows installation.

  1. Insert the Windows 7 installation CD.

  2. Choose the option to repair Windows, then follow the instructions.

Workaround 2: To avoid the error, do the following tasks after taking the image of the device:

  1. Before restoring the image, create an imaging bundle with the following actions:

    • Action 1: To restore the WIM bundle.

    • Action 2: To run the script bundle with the script as sidChange -i.

  2. Apply the bundle on the Windows 7 device where you want to restore the image.

  3. Restore the image.

5.2.6 Patch Management

This section contains information about issues that might occur when you use Patch Management in ZENworks Configuration Management.

5.2.6.1 Deploying non-cached patches on agent machines result in deployment errors

If a patch has not finished caching and deployment for that patch occurs, the progress window displays a ‘Failure occurred’ message. For patches that require reboot after deployment, the machine reboots in spite of the patch not being applied.

Workaround: Ensure that a patch is completely cached on the server and that content for the patch bundle is available before proceeding with patch deployment. In case the patch remediation schedule for the previously non-cached patch has expired, reschedule deployment.

5.2.7 Remote Management

This section contains information about issues that might occur when you use Remote Management in ZENworks Configuration Management.

5.2.7.1 The capability to simulate Ctrl+Alt+Del functionality on a Windows 7 device through the Remote Management viewer is disabled

Workaround: None.
