1.0 Overview

Version 3.0 of the GroupWise Gateway for Lotus Notes provides the following improvements:

2.0 Installation

To install the GroupWise Gateway for Lotus Notes:

  1. Run the self-extracting executable setuplngw.exe, click Yes to confirm that you want to install the gateway, then click Next to continue.

  2. Click Accept to accept the license agreement.

The default installation option, GroupWise Gateway for Lotus Notes, includes installation of the Gateway Administrator snap-in to ConsoleOne.

  3. Click Next to continue.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

For detailed installation instructions, see the GroupWise Gateway for Lotus Notes Installation and Administration Guide on the GroupWise 6.5 Documentation page.

  5. Before you start the gateway, you must configure your Notes system and your GroupWise system to support the gateway link, as described in the GroupWise Gateway for Lotus Notes Installation and Administration Guide.

  6. After you start the gateway, stop and then start the MTAs in the GroupWise system to establish the links to the non-GroupWise domain that represents the Notes system.

3.0 Update

If you have already installed a Beta version of the GroupWise Gateway for Lotus Notes, do not run the Installation program to update the software. Follow these steps instead.

  1. Stop the Notes Gateway.

  2. Unzip the downloaded file into a temporary directory.

  3. Copy the Notes Gateway files into the directory where the Notes Gateway is already installed (for example, domain\wpgate\notes).

  4. Start the gateway.

4.0 Known Issues

4.1 Empty Forwarded Messages

If a GroupWise user forwards a message to a Notes user and the forwarded message contains no text, the forwarded message appears in the message body when the Notes user opens it.

4.2 Directory Synchronization Dependency

Directory synchronization depends on the date and time settings on the Notes server and the Notes Gateway machine. Only if the machines themselves are synchronized can the Notes Gateway determine whether or not a specific directory synchronization has been done. If the Notes server and the Notes Gateway machine are not synchronized, the Notes Gateway may not perform inbound synchronization from the Notes Address Book to the GroupWise Address Book even when it is necessary.

4.3 Directory Synchronization Limitation

When directory synchronization is enabled, users that are deleted from the Notes Address Book are not immediately deleted from the GroupWise foreign domain. However, nightly directory exchange deletes these users from GroupWise.

4.4 Notes Groups Limitation

During directory exchange and synchronization, Notes groups are not propagated to the GroupWise system.

4.5 SNMP Limitation

The Notes Gateway SNMP functionality does not support more than one gateway on a single Windows machine.

4.6 Extra Dot in Internet Addresses

Sometimes when a Notes user sends a message to a GroupWise user and also includes Internet users in the To or CC fields, the GroupWise user sees an extra dot in the Internet addresses after the username and before the at-sign (@).

4.7 Notes Gateway Not Compatible with GroupWise Monitor

The current version of the Notes Gateway cannot be monitored from GroupWise Monitor with the rest of the GroupWise agents. However, it does have a Web console that can be accessed independent from Monitor that is parallel to the Web consoles provided by the rest of the GroupWise agents.

5.0 Additional Documentation

In addition to this Readme, see the GroupWise Gateway for Lotus Notes Installation and Administration Guide on the GroupWise 6.5 Documentation page for complete information about the Notes Gateway.
